01 LUCENT_2022-7.jpg

Katie is a musician, composer, sound designer and songwriter who currently makes her own music under the name Hex Hue.

For several years she was a member of Choice nominated ‘Pleasure Beach’ with whom she toured the UK and Ireland. Under several different guises, she has worked and collaborated with musicians such as Foy Vance and Duke Special as well as supporting artists like Van Morrison, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Jesca Hoop, Bell X1, All Saints and many more.

Katie is interested in how theatre and live music intersect and influence one another. She received funding from The Mac Theatre this year to create her own show 'Lucent' (pictured above). The show was a collaborative, live music experience in a theatrical setting and featured some of Ireland's most exciting up and coming talent sharing the stage and playing on each other's songs. The piece sold out and received critical acclaim. See one review here.

As a composer/songwriter/sound designer Katie has worked with many Film and Theatre companies across Ireland. Katie just received a SIAP award from the Arts Council NI to develop a collection of new compositions in 2023.

In 2015 she composed music for short film 'The Death of a Projectionist' by Oscar nominated and Bafta award winning Out of Orbit Films. In 2021 Katie was the Musical Director, composer and Sound designer for Rough Girls by Tara Lynn O’Neill which was recently selected as one of The Stage Magazine’s best plays of 2021. In Spring 2022 Katie wrote music for 200 singers, electronics, strings and drums for a film project set in the Giants Ring - Green Space Dark Skies.

In 2018 she starred in and worked as on-stage musical director in the production of Good Vibrations in The Lyric Theatre and is set to take it on tour to New York in 2023 as musical director.

In 2020 Katie was selected as on of award winning theatre company, Prime Cut’s, Reveal artists which champions and develops emerging theatre makers. She is currently working on a music based commission with them as part of this award. In Summer 2020 Katie curated the Creative Hub for the TedX Stormont online and co-founded Safe in Sound which is a new initiative with the vision to create a safe, strong, connected creative sector founded on equality, diversity and respect. Katie Is now the Chair of Safe in Sound and sits on many UK and Ireland wide committees representing Northern Ireland in the conversations around safe spaces in music and the creative industries.

Katie was delighted to be selected to take part in the 2022 IETM Campus in Berlin where she met with other artists from across the globe to discuss International collaboration. She hopes to spend some of 2023 looking at how technologies such as AI and VR can be used too tell stories in theatre and music.

"Richardson’s compelling soundscape builds and builds to a deafening crescendo. It resonates to the once-familiar sound of conflict. The music is stunning.” The Stage

“The music is suitable elegiac - a funeral march for the film reel. It provides the perfect accompaniment to the film.” UK Film Review

"'Taut, pristine piece of alt-pop, with its vital vocal pitting HEX HUE against the world." CLASH

"'...the best parts of indie and electronica. It's a mesmerising affair.” Hotpress
